Proper steak, served in a leafy spot at Bamboo Hills in Segambut, a little outside central KL.

What stayed with me most was, of course, the steak. It was so juicy the meat juices ran as soon as the knife went in, and every bite gave me that real, satisfying feeling of eating good beef. It was the kind of flavour that seems to soak right into you. The menu is built around steak alone: a simple course where soup and salad come first, followed by steak and fries.

Potager is a French restaurant led by Fukuoka-born chef Masashi Horiuchi, and it is listed in the MICHELIN Guide. L'entrecôte de Potager is its more casual offshoot, started so people could enjoy steak in a relaxed way. On the same grounds there is also a wine lounge focused on French wines.

A place I want to come back to on days when I really want a good steak.
